Despite the freezing cold weather, local artists from the Meirionnydd Artists' Society travelled from the Trawsfydd,Llanelltyd, Barmouth, Friog, Rhoslefain, Pennal and Dolgellau areas  for the Crtique session, held at the Royal Ship Hotel , Dolgellau, on Tuesday evening.

Each member was invited to bring two examples of their work and was given the opportunity to talk about what they were trying to achieve in their paintings or to seek advice on any problems relating to their work. It was fascinating to hear the varied history of the art displayed, together  with several interesting accounts regarding the different locations dipicted with some humorous incidents that had occurred whilst painting 'en plein aire'. A great variety of both subject matter and styles was shown, with the media used ranging from charcoal drawing, water colour, acrylics, pastel and some still wet oils to laundry markers on canvas!

After all the paintings had been shown, Valerie Land, the chairman, thanked both those who had brought their work and all members for participating in a most enjoyable and lively evening.

The meeting ended with refreshments during which every one concluded how important these critique sessions are, as producing any art work is usually a solitary occupation and the interaction with other artists is invaluable.

This was the last meeting for the year; the next critique evening will be 4 April 2006 and the day school programme will recommence in January.
